Karachi, the largest city and commercial heart of Pakistan, offers a range of modern conveniences—but it also grapples with challenges like vehicle fraud and tampered number plates.
To address these growing concerns, the Sindh government has introduced smart registration cards and advanced number plates for both cars and motorcycles. These new plates come with built-in security features designed to prevent fraud during vehicle transactions and support law enforcement efforts.
If you're looking to get a new number plate in Sindh, the process is now simpler than ever. You can start right from home by visiting the official website of the Sindh Excise Department: https://excise.gos.pk.
- Go to the website: Open the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department’s website: https://taxportal.excise.gos.pk/home/quick_pay.
- Enter Vehicle Details: Fill in your mobile number and car registration number.
- Choose Number Plate: Select the “number plate” option in the next line.
- Ensure Tax is Up-to-Date: Make sure your motor vehicle tax is up-to-date, as the requisition for a new number plate won’t proceed otherwise.
- Fill in Address and Details: Fill in your address, name, and other required details.
- Generate PSID: Generate the PSID and note the amount, which will be Rs. 2,450 and motorcycle owners will pay Rs. 1,850, according to the Sindh Excise Department.
- Pay Online: Pay the PSID via ATM, Easypaisa, or take a printout and submit it at a bank mentioned on the website.
Once payment is successful, you will receive an SMS with a link to the invoice. Save and print this invoice for future use.
The last date to obtain these Ajrak-designed number plates is August 14, 2025, which was recently been extended from May 15, 2025, after which further action may be taken against defaulters.
To check if your number plate is ready, repeat the earlier steps on the Sindh Excise website and check the “Number Plate” status.
